Doris & Leopold Sutter. We represent Grüner, Roter and Frühroter Veltliner from gravel soil with a high containt of lime of the Ur-Danube.

We are a “new winery with old roots”. New because there has been a lot since Doris came to the winery and our clear focus on the Veltliner variety has moved a lot.

And so we are with the old roots of our family estate. Leopold’s grandfather August was the first winemaker in Hohenwarth who bottled wines.

What we understand by philosophy can be described in a few words: near-natural management of our vineyards, restraint in the cellar. Careful pruning, controlled foliage, fruit-loving vine treatment, water-saving soil treatment and a lot of manual work are self-evident to us. In the cellar, we take as little as possible into the wine-making process. Each wine should develop individually, transport its origin and thus be unmistakable. In the steel tank or wooden barrel, our wines are stored after filling in our naturally-tempered cellar, in which it has between 8 and 10 degrees summer and winter. The ideal environment for the wines to rest and mature in the bottle.

Since 2020 we are certified Sustainable Austria and also Vegan.

Our wines thrive in light sandy loess and loam soils and terraced gravel soil vineyards. These soils and the temperature differences between warm days and cool nights provide the basis of our distinctive white and red winesViticulture was on this ground to wine culture.

Weinviertel DAC wines are exclusively of the Grüner Veltliner grape variety, fruity and spicy-peppery in taste. They must not show woody notes nor appear overly alcoholic. An analytical examination and an expert tasting comittee guarantee that all Weinviertel DAC wines satisfy the rigorous requirements.
