Hofkellerei des Fürsten von Liechtenstein “Little country – Great Pinot Noirs” – Le Figaro/France 2023

“Our vineyards in Liechtenstein and Austria, steeped in tradition, imbue our wines with individual stylistic expressions that make every occasion a celebration of joie de vivre”

Princess Marie of Liechtenstein

At the end of 2018, the Prince of Liechtenstein’s court cellars – the Hofkellerei – were completely reorganised. Under the direction of Stefan Tscheppe (formerly of Perry Creek Winery in California, as well as Austrian estates Weingut Eduard Tscheppe in Südsteiermark and Weingut Esterházy in Burgenland), the style of the two wineries in Liechtenstein and Austria were revised and elevated to a new level of sophistication, based on true expression of origin.

LIECHTENSTEIN

In Vaduz, Liechtenstein, 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay are grown on vines some forty-five years old in the vineyard »Herawingert«, on approximately four hectares of slate and limestone soil. Starting at the end of 2018, work in the vineyard has been supervised by Hannah Fiegenschuh of the team of Stéphane Derenoncourt, sensitively pursuing an origin-oriented style, in both cultivation and vinification.

AUSTRIA

In Wilfersdorf, Lower Austria – Weinviertel, the 500-year-old vaulted cellars were supplemented in 2019 by a modern press house with fermentation and maturing cellars. Here the focus is placed on wines of origin, influenced by the Pannonian climate and classified similar to those of the Austrian winegrowers’ association Österreichische Traditionsweingüter or Germany’s VDP.
